The Sunday Express says Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been told by Southampton that he will need to spend £70million if he wants to take Van Dijk to Anfield this summer.
Klopp and Liverpool were forced into an embarrassing public apology earlier this month after being accused by Southampton of tapping up the former Celtic star.
But he is refusing to drop his interest in Van Dijk who has also been attracting the interest of Premier League champions Chelsea and Manchester City.
Southampton appear to be resigned to Van Dijk leaving St Mary's this summer but are determined to only let him do so on their terms however.
And that means a club meeting their full valuation of £70m which has increased since the row with Liverpool erupted and almost led to a Premier League investigation.
